Earlier in the month, I had the pleasure of visiting the York National Book Fair. It was held at York Race Course, which made a lovely venue for the event. It was the first time AbeBooks had attended this particular fair and was also my first opportunity to meet with some of the AbeBooks booksellers face to face.
The York National Book Fair has been running since 1974, when it began with just 20 exhibitors at the White Swan in York. This year, there were over 200 exhibitors all either booksellers or in book related trades, including packaging and shipping service companies, book and paper conservators and inventory management software providers. The stands were spread over 2 floors of the Knavesmire
Suite with a view out onto the race course. Local booksellers were well represented as well as those who had travelled from further afield. Many of the booksellers are already part of the AbeBooks community so I was able to collect some valuable feedback and suggestions and learn more about their businesses.
I would like to thank those booksellers who interrupted a busy day to discuss their concerns and personal experiences and suggestions. I enjoyed getting to meet some of our established booksellers and gathering suggestions to help us continually improve our service to booksellers and buyers. It was also great to hear the positive feedback that many had to offer.
